參觀赫氏古堡有三種不同的參觀行程：

Cottages & Kitchen Tour
Visit the Wine Cellar, two lavish guest houses (including the one Mr. Hearst used when he first stayed here), 
and the surprisingly modern kitchen. Stroll the grounds at your leisure at the conclusion of your guided tour.

 Wine Cellar
Mr. Hearst loved good food and good wine, as the nearly three thousand bottles remaining in this wine cellar attest. He drank hard liquor very seldom, but always served wine at dinner. He preferred as well that his guests should not overindulge, and many of them recalled that alcohol was served in only limited amounts at the ranch. The quantity may have been small, but the quality of Mr. Hearst’s wine and spirits was always excellent.

House B
As the first building completed on the hilltop, this cottage was the Hearst family’s earliest residence in the summer of 1922. Though usually referred to by the simple “House B,” its formal name was Casa del Monte (House of the Mountains). This justly honors the wide vistas of the Santa Lucia Coast Mountains seen from its north-facing windows. In later years, this stately cottage was used by many of Mr. Hearst’s guests. It contains the so-called “Cardinal Richelieu bed” of ornately carved walnut—and many guests requested the privilege of sleeping in it.

House A
At double the size of House B, House A was the next Hearst family residence. They moved in to Casa del Mar (House of the Sea) in 1924. It overlooks ocean views to the south that stretch one hundred miles on clear days. The most formal and most elaborately decorated of the cottages, House A features a different gold-leafed plaster ceiling in every room. Mr. Hearst moved to the main building in 1928, but House A still remained dear to him. At age eighty-two in the late 1940s, he returned there to live for his last two years on the hilltop--before retiring to Beverly Hills, where he died in 1951.

Kitchen
View the large kitchen where all meals were prepared for Mr. Hearst and his guests. Its long pantry holds silver and nickel-topped tables where food could be kept warm before being wheeled into the Refectory. The kitchen itself is full of practical devices, including stock pots, pressure cookers, bread ovens, huge mixers, and early refrigerators. Beef, poultry, fruit, vegetables, and dairy products were all raised at the ranch. The fare was fresh and delicious, and there was always at least one dessert—often two—because Mr. Hearst loved cakes, cookies, pies, and ice cream.

Library
Guests were welcome to browse through the Library’s four thousand books.
 This imposing space also showcases one of Mr. Hearst’s most treasured collections: 
one hundred and fifty ancient Greek vases, all more than two thousand years old. 
These fragile clay vessels are displayed throughout the room and provide fascinating glimpses of daily life in ancient Greece.
 At eighty feet in length and filled with precious objects, the Library is truly a room to get lost in.

Gothic Suite
W. R. Hearst’s private quarters occupied the entire third floor. Here he displayed many sacred objects, including paintings, statues, textiles, and metalwork. Mr. Hearst was not a formal churchgoer, but he treasured these precious late-medieval pieces. He and his companion Marion Davies occupied the suite’s two bedrooms and private sitting room. Its soaring Gothic Study evokes a church, with its high windows and painted arches. But three thousand books and an imposing conference table show that this was actually Mr. Hearst’s personal library and executive board room.

 Duplex Bedrooms
Architect Julia Morgan required both patience and ingenuity when responding to Mr. Hearst’s many changes of mind. Two tall sitting rooms topped with loft bedrooms provide examples of her skill. Originally constructed as open light wells, these narrow spaces were later transformed into delightful guest accommodations. As elegant rooms decorated with tapestries and painted ceilings, they blend in so beautifully that it is hard to believe they were literally built from thin air.

View the magnificent ground floor rooms of La Casa Grande (big house) where Mr. Hearst's guests met their host 
and were entertained during their stay at La Cuesta Encantada (the Enchanted Hill). 
See the Assembly Room, where guests met for cocktails, the Refectory, 
where meals were served, the Morning Room, Billiard Room and Theater. 
Your knowledgeable Guide will bring this estate to life sharing stories about Mr. Hearst and his many guests 
who visited for nearly three decades in the early part of the last century. 
Stroll the grounds at your leisure at the conclusion of your guided tour inside the castle.

 Assembly Room
Evenings began in this huge living room, with cocktails, conversation, and a chance to meet your host. Its walls are lined with walnut paneling and vivid tapestries, all dating back to the 16th century. Neoclassical marble statues brighten the corners and fine bronze sculptures sit atop the large tables. But the jigsaw puzzles, poker table, and comfy overstuffed chairs show that the Assembly Room was also a place for socializing and fun.

All meals were served in this splendid dining room. Mr. Hearst and his architect Julia Morgan named it the Refectory, the term for a monastery dining hall. Its high windows, bright silk banners, and gleaming silver candlesticks convey the atmosphere of a church from the middle ages. When we see the mustard and ketchup bottles sitting on the long tables, however, we realize that Mr. Hearst liked to keep things informal at the ranch.

Guests could play both billiards and pool in this impressive game room, which is also decorated with gaming themes. Its 15th-century Spanish ceiling is painted with scenes of courtly life, including bullfighting and jousting. And the Flemish tapestry from 1500 shows an early-morning hunting scene.

W. R. Hearst and his companion, film star Marion Davies, joined the guests every night at 11 p.m. for a full-length movie, preceded by a newsreel. Visitors will sit down to view a short film showing footage of the Castle’s talented architect Julia Morgan, Hearst and Marion Davies themselves, and many of their celebrated guests—all having a wonderful time on the Enchanted Hill.
